IDENTIFICATION AND QUANTIFICATION OF STONE AGGREGATES IN PRECAST CONCRETE SLABS
Stone aggregates are granular materials of natural or artificial origin (natural rock, gravel, sand or crushed materials) as an essential part in the production of precast concrete slabs. They are classified according to their size into:
- Fine aggregates: sands (0-5 mm)
- Coarse aggregates: gravels or crushed stones (5-20 mm, typically)
In terms of composition, these can be of various natures and are typically used:
- Granite
- Basalt
- Limestone
- Dolomite
- Silica sand
The aim of this study was to identify and quantify stone aggregates (granite and basalt) in precast concrete paving slabs. To this end, compositional, morphological and textural analyses were carried out to provide objective and precise data on these materials.
