ASSESSMENT OF MATERIALS FOR THE RESTORATION OF THE CARMEN DE LOS CATALANES (GRANADA)
At TESELA, Materials, Innovation and Heritage, we have carried out a characterisation of various samples of traditional rammed earth from Carmen de los Catalanes, in the Albaicín district of Granada, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Masonry is one of the most characteristic traditional building techniques of Granada’s historic architecture, making its study crucial to the conservation of the built heritage. The work has involved taking samples and carrying out technical laboratory analyses, with the aim of determining the composition, material characteristics and state of preservation of the original masonry.
The results obtained provide essential technical data for the assessment of the property and for the design of appropriate conservation and restoration strategies, based on criteria of sustainability and respect for the historic materials.
