EUROPEAN PROJECT. REMARBLE
Reuse of marble cutting waste as a new filler material for specialty mortars with low carbon footprint.
In the process of manufacturing ornamental stone, cutting and polishing two types of waste are generated: offcuts – surplus and sludge composed of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and silica (SiO2). This type of waste is of great interest for its integration in mortars and special concretes, but its improper disposal can have important environmental and economic repercussions.
About REMARBLE
Specific objectives and technological applications
(1) Develop an innovative material for use as a flexible membrane cementitious mortar incorporating treated sludge derived from marble cutting waste from marble manufacturing companies near Macael to achieve a demonstration prototype in a relevant environment (TRL 6).
(2) Evaluation of materials according to current EU regulations and industrial scale-up.
