WALLS OF THE CASTLE OF SANTA CATALINA (JAEN): CHARACTERISATION OF MATERIALS

Also known as the Castle of Santa Catalina, the Castle of Jaén is a Christian-medieval defensive construction that was part of the old citadel. During the Napoleonic period it was used as a warehouse and stables and even as a hospital. It has been an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) since 1931.

For this project, the compositional characteristics of samples of stone material, earthen walls and mortar from the walls were analysed. The analyses were carried out by X-ray diffraction (XRD).
