CHARACTERISATION OF MATERIALS FROM THE SOUTH DOORWAY OF THE CHURCH OF LA ENCARNACIÓN IN BAILÉN (JAÉN)
The most emblematic building of Bailén’s local architecture, made of red asperon stone cut into ashlars, its construction began in the 15th century following the canons of the style known as Reyes Católicos or Isabelino, corresponding to the trends marked in other Gothic churches in the province, such as San Ildefonso de Jaén, Santiago de Andújar or La Concepción de Lopera.
Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque converge in this church, which was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument on 2 May 1983.
The aim of this study was the mineralogical characterisation of samples of mortars and pictorial layers from the south doorway of the Iglesia de la Encarnación in Bailén.
