CHARACTERISATION OF MATERIALS IN THE SANTA CLARA MINARET (CÓRDOBA)

At TESELA, we have contributed to the restoration of Córdoba’s historical heritage by working on the minaret tower of the former Convent of Santa Clara, a 10th-century Caliphate-era minaret that was converted into a bell tower following the Reconquista. This project has been instrumental in preserving a historic monument of great cultural value.

Characterisation of historical and replacement materials

Our work focused on the analysis of mortars and stone materials, both original and replacement, with the aim of:

  • 🔎 Identify the composition and state of preservation of historical materials.
  • ⚒️ Distinguish between original materials and later additions, ensuring the monument’s authenticity.
  • 🛠️ To provide technical guidelines to inform restoration work, ensuring that interventions are compatible and sustainable.

Contribution to historical heritage

Thanks to this work, conservation and restoration decisions are based on accurate scientific data, respecting the authenticity of the Caliphate minaret and promoting sustainable interventions that preserve its historical value.

At TESELA, we remain committed to archaeology and the application of science to heritage, applying rigorous analysis to protect and preserve our history.
