Ultra-high-performance materials for hydraulic tiles: a new perspective on craft innovation for urban environments
The main objective of the MOSAIC project is to research, develop and revolutionise the perspective of the use of innovative hydraulic tiles in urban environments.
About MOSAIC
Specific objectives and technological applications
One of the best-known building materials used for artistic wall and floor coverings since the 19th century is hydraulic tiles. These materials are mainly composed of Portland cement (OPC), fine aggregates and/or pigments.
The main objective of the MOSAIC project is to research, develop and revolutionise the perspective of the use of innovative hydraulic tiles in urban environments. To this end, a new type of material will be developed, which will be combined with artisanal methods of hydraulic tile production and 3D manufacturing methods. The design of the hydraulic tiles will be based on historical, representative and artistic elements of the city of Granada.
Main benefits derived from the project
The MOSAIC project aims to provide a new innovative solution based on a hydraulic tile for the city of Granada. It will be oriented towards the European market for building products, specifically in the European tile and flooring sector. Creating intangible value in the short term and contributing to the European construction ecosystem by combining traditional products with new advanced materials and the digital adoption process as follows:
- Increasing the efficiency of pavements.
- Increasing the usability and accessibility of technology through digital tools.
- Integration of innovation, culture and craftsmanship in an urban environment.
