EUROPEAN PROJECT. ASSEMBLEND
Ultra-lightweight aerated concrete and geopolymer-based mineral foams: A new approach for non load-bearing sandwich panel façade systems.
The ASSEMBLEND project aims to create sustainable, low-workload panels that will be used to rehabilitate deteriorated facades. It will combine ultra-lightweight cellular concrete (ULWCC) and geopolymer-based foams (GPF) to create a new type of sandwich panels.
About ASSEMBLEND
Specific objectives and technological applications
(1) Develop two types of materials to form a prefabricated façade panel through an ultra lightweight cellular concrete (ULWCC) that will serve as the main upper and lower structure, and a geopolymer-based foam (GPF) that will serve as a core filler as a substitute for synthetic polymer foams (e.g. EPS or XPS).
(2) Evaluation of materials according to current EU regulations and industrial scale-up.

- TESELA (www.teselainnova.com) is a technology-based SME (Granada, Spain). Born out of the University of Granada, its mission is to provide sustainable R&D solutions in heritage and building materials, guided by the principles of the circular economy. They offer services for the selection and manufacture of suitable materials for various projects. The TESELA team includes experts in chemistry, engineering, art history and architecture, which reinforces its expertise in materials. The company has two testing laboratories and the capacity to evaluate the properties of materials through the research centres of the UGR.
- GRUP CURANTA. is a family business (Torroella de Fluvià, Girona, Spain). Throughout its history, it has always been committed to innovation and the search for technical and constructive solutions. It has two production centres located in Torroella de Fluvià, from where it manufactures and distributes mortars and fresh concrete for the whole province of Girona. In 1998 it was the first company in the whole region to obtain the EHE 98 certificate, which accredits the conformity of our concrete with the compulsory specifications of the regulations. As a result of this constant continuous improvement and our permanent commitment to innovation, we have always been looking for new products to provide improvements and solutions to the market and our customers: self-levelling mortars, lightened mortars and concretes, draining concretes, among others.
