STUDY OF MURAL PAINTINGS IN THE MADINAT AL-ZAHARA ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE

Medina Azahara (in classical Arabic Madīnat az-Zahrāʾ, ‘the shining city’) was a palatine or aulic city built in the 10th century by the first caliph of Córdoba, Abderramán III, about 8 km northwest of Córdoba at the foot of the Sierra Morena mountain range.

The aim of this study was to determine the variation in colour and thermal behaviour after conservation and restoration work on seven wall paintings from the archaeological site of Madinat al-Zahra. For this purpose, a colourimetric and thermographic study was carried out.
