CHARACTERISATION OF MATERIALS FOR THE RESTORATION OF THE ROMAN CRYPTOPORTICO OF THE ALBAICÍN (GRANADA)

This project analysed a series of samples of mortars and bricks taken from the underground galleries that were found in the Albaicín at the beginning of 2019. The analysis techniques used were loupe-videomicroscopy, X-ray diffraction and optical microscopy.

These galleries have been identified as possible thermal baths or a cryptoporticus. In Roman architecture, the cryptoporticus was an underground covered gallery or corridor for circulation or storage. It was usually integrated into a larger built complex.
