CHARACTERIZATION OF MATERIALS FROM THE TOWER OF THE CATHEDRAL OF GRANADA (GRANADA, SPAIN)
The Tower of the Cathedral of Granada during the year 2024 has been undergoing a major rehabilitation to stop its deterioration and open a panoramic terrace to the public. The works, which will continue beyond 2024, include the restoration of the stonework of the exterior facades, the solution to the inverted roof with the installation of a belvedere, the rehabilitation of the interior of the tower and the cleaning of the bells.
In TESELA we have studied for the restoration of the Tower of the Cathedral of Granada:
- Determination of the compressive strength of different stone materials.
- Mineralogical characterization of aggregate samples.
- Characterization of replacement brick samples and determination of the soluble salts they contain.
- Sample characterization and estimation of the compressive strength of the lining mortar.
- Characterization of samples of diverse nature (crusts, pigeon droppings, stone materials and concrete).
