CASTLE OF CAMPILLO DE ARENAS (JAÉN): CHARACTERISATION OF MATERIALS

Dating from the 14th century, this castle stands on the Cerro del Castillo de Puerta Arenas hill in the Alta Coloma mountain range. It was built in earth using the rammed earth technique, probably by the Almohads, and preserves a small portion of the wall, as well as three Castilian masonry towers, their corresponding ashlars, a moat and two cisterns.

For this project, the mineralogical characteristics of a sample of stone material and a mortar were analysed. Para ello, se empleó la técnica de difracción de rayos X (DRX).
