CHARACTERISATION OF MATERIALS FROM THE WALL BETWEEN THE PUERTA DE LA JUSTICIA AND THE TORRE DE LA BARBA (LA ALHAMBRA, GRANADA)

For this project, a series of samples of mortars and earthen ramparts from the wall between the Puerta de la Justicia and the Torre de la Barba in the Alhambra in Granada were analysed. X-ray diffraction (XRD), polarised optical microscopy (POM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses were carried out in order to carry out a compositional, morphological and textural study of these samples, which allowed for the correct conservation intervention on the wall.

Several digital newspapers, including GranadaHoy and El Ideal, report the news: “The project is based on total respect for the values of the complex, according to the director of the Patronato” and “The aim of the project was to provide the wall with the necessary safety and functional conditions to prevent its deterioration”. This action is also registered in the Communication and Press section of the website of the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife.
