TORRE DE MELICENA (GRANADA): CHARACTERISATION OF MORTARS

Part of the watchtower system of the Nasrid kingdom of Granada, the tower of Melicena served to protect the coast of Sorvilán and the farmstead of Balysana.

For this project, a number of mortar samples from the tower were analysed. Compositional, morphological and textural analysis was carried out by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and polarised optical microscopy (POM).
