TESELA Materiales Innovaci\u00f3n y Patrimonio is taking part in the restoration project for the San Miguel Watchtower, an 18th-century military watchtower situated in the Cabo de Gata area, in the province of Almer\u00eda. This site is of great historical, architectural and landscape value; it forms part of the protected cultural heritage and was designated a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC) in 1985. This type of work on heritage sites requires a high degree of technical precision and a special sense of responsibility, as the main objective is to ensure the conservation of the building whilst respecting its historical identity and original values.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">HISTORICAL CONTEXT OF THE TOWER<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The San Miguel Watchtower forms part of the coastal defence system built during the 18th century, designed to monitor the coastline and provide protection against maritime incursions. These structures played a strategic role in the military organisation of the territory. The restoration of the San Miguel Tower in Cabo de Gata enables the recovery and enhancement of a key element of the historic defensive system along the Almer\u00eda coast, contributing to the preservation of the region\u2019s architectural heritage.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">START OF THE RENOVATION PROJECT<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project began with a kick-off meeting, attended by all the stakeholders involved in the project. These included the drafting team, representatives from Almer\u00eda City Council, the Coastal Authority, the construction company and TESELA. During this meeting, the foundations of the project were laid, the initial work plan was drawn up and responsibilities were allocated amongst the various participating organisations. This collaborative approach is essential to ensuring the coordinated and efficient delivery of the project.   <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">OBJECTIVES OF THE INTERVENTION<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main aim of the restoration of the Torre\u00f3n de San Miguel in Cabo de Gata is to conserve and enhance the monument, ensuring its structural stability and its integration into the natural environment. The main objectives include: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Preserving the historic value of the keep<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Structural stabilisation of the building<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Respect for the original materials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Landscape integration in the Cabo de Gata area<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Implementation of compatible technical solutions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CONSERVATION CRITERIA<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The restoration work is based on the principles of minimal intervention, compatibility of materials and respect for the authenticity of the heritage site. Their preservation enables us to understand the surveillance and defence strategies employed in times gone by. The restoration of the Torre\u00f3n de San Miguel contributes directly to the protection of this type of heritage, reinforcing its cultural and educational value.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">TESELA\u2019S LINE OF WORK<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This project forms part of TESELA\u2019s \u2018Materials, Innovation and Heritage\u2019 programme, which focuses on research, conservation and restoration work on heritage assets. The company applies rigorous methodologies and innovative solutions tailored to each historical and architectural context, with the aim of ensuring that restoration work is respectful, effective and sustainable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CONCLUSION<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The restoration of the Torre\u00f3n de San Miguel in Cabo de Gata is a key initiative for the conservation of Almer\u00eda\u2019s coastal defences.
