COURSE OBJECTIVES Painting is the common element of constructions carried out by all civilizations since ancient times and has been used extensively in practically all the works created by man. From prehistory, with the paintings inside the caves, through the ancient civilizations where paintings and hieroglyphic engravings are still preserved in the Egyptian pyramids, the decorations of the Mayan and Aztec temples…, to the modern buildings of our days, have been used infinity of materials to try to obtain lasting colors. In the same way that construction systems have changed, painting has also changed to adapt to these new needs, so that the function of painting has gone from being a purely decorative element to being a protective element, which implies that its quality and correct application also conditions the general quality of the work where it is applied, having a great impact on the appropriate choice of this very important preserving element. A protection system is not better because it is more expensive, but must be appropriate to the needs of the work and therefore we must seek the best value for money for a specific function, since each painting is developed for a specific mission and although not incompatible in most cases, we will not always achieve the desired results if the choice is inadequate. In this course we will establish the guidelines for prescribing a repair and rehabilitation treatment using paints, trying to cover the most frequent pathologies, which without being exhaustive, will allow us to determine with enough certainty the ideal treatment to apply.
